KuKu Chai

Born into an Art family in Nanjing, China. Started painting and publishing her works on the well-known Chinese children magazine Little Friend at the age of 4 and 5 respectively. In 1997 she enrolled herself in the art college founded by the great master Xu Bei Hong, of the Nanjing Teachers University. She graduated with first-class scores and a B.A. degree in 1983. She then worked as an art teacher in the art college for five years, meanwhile studied Chinese calligraphy under the master Wei Tian Chi.

Ms Chai is always a very active artist. Since she immigrated into Hong Kong in 1990 she has designed and illustrated for hundreds of books, arranged dozens of art exhibitions. She held a personal exhibition of her art in 1997 and a joint exhibition of her and her Japanese students work in 1999.

Her works have been displayed in the Art museum of China, Beijing; published by Art, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, Ming Pao, Wen Wei Po etc. and collected by the agencies of the Hong Kong Government, Japanese organisations and many local as well as overseas collectors.

Her calligraphy work was shown at the Sixth National Calligraphy Exhibition of China in 1995. In 1999 her painting work Spring Mountains won the Award of Excellence of the Ninth National Arts Exhibition of China
