John Broad

John Broad; was born in Essex , England and attended Southend School of Art. From there he went on to study at Edinburgh College of Art, under William Gillies, graduating with a Degree in Painting and Drawing. Moving to Grand Cayman in 1989 he took up an Art teaching post at the Cayman Islands High School.

Since then he has held many successful solo shows on Cayman, the most notable being Pure Art 1991, Kennedy Gallery 1996, The National Gallery 1998 and the most recent, “Renascence” at the Westin in November 2005. John has also participated in many mixed shows, such as The National Gallery’s “Watermarks” and “Emergence” Exhibitions.

In 2003 he was commissioned by The National Gallery to paint on five hundred glazed tiles The Wall of History a celebration of Cayman History for the Quincentennial Year. John was presented to Prince Andrew at the Court House opening of the Wall in May of that year.

His most recent specialization has been Speed Painting where he paints a scene on site. In 2004 he created a painting of a Dinner at the Westin celebrating new Spanish style cuisine. The following year John’s speed painting of a Hedge funds dinner for abused children at the Grand Old House raised CI$ 8,000 at auction. At Art at the Governors 2006 he was commissioned by Walkers the sponsors to paint the colorful scene.

After an Exhibition at the Ritz Carlton in 2006 he was commissioned to paint a picture of the hotel to be presented to the owner Michael Ryan. John was awarded the National Cultural Foundations prize for Artistic Achievement in 2004.

Johns work is infused with pure colour, movement and passion for the human spirit, and can be found in collections in Cayman, USA and Europe
