Deon Mattis

Deon Mattis is widely known for her stage performances in the musical and theatrical worlds as an emcee/compere, vocalist and actor.

Most will recognize her as a morning radio personality starting off with RJR and then IRIE FM Reggae Radio in Jamaica as “Wake Dem Up Deon”. She has been in the Cayman Islands since 2004 as “Vibe Dem Up Deon” with VIBE 98.9FM and around the world she is affectionately called “The Wake Up Lady”.                    

The teenaged Deon escaped through art for self-relaxation.  In the mid 1990’s she took her love of art more seriously and was privately tutored by Artist Judith Gayle in St, Mary Jamaica.  Artist Carlene Spencer in Kingston, Jamaica took an interest in Deon’s compositions and encouraged her to consider the option of sharing with private collectors.

Deon is now offering her heart to more than her private collectors in Jamaica, North America and England. June 30 – July 15, 2006, ‘Elmina’s Kitchen’ will be staged at the Prospect Play House,  Elmina’s  likeness on the wall is her contribution to the set.

While the Artist enjoys painting portraits most of her compositions now combine realism with abstract.
