Avril Ward

Avril Ward,  is an established and versatile fine artist. Living and working in the Cayman Islands, she was born in Scotland, raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her painting style is diverse and varied, she usually works in themes and series expressing amongst others; her love of her environment, her observation of the obscure yet obvious, her spirituality and her comment on social pressures.

Avril’s early career was in graphic design, illustration, fabric design, and she ran a successful faux finish painting business, where she specialized in “trompe l’oeil’ murals for homes and businesses. Some of her clients included Woolworths (South Africa) and Health and Racquet Clubs.

She turned her attention to fine art in 1999

In October 2003, when Avril was invited by the Agora Gallery in New York to exhibit, her work was reviewed by art critic Barbara K. Bernstein, for Studio and Gallery magazine. Barbara writes;

“Avril Ward’s ability to depict ordinary events of daily living with sympathy and convey their significance through her flawless technique makes her a valuable and admirable contemporary realist.”
